Fire Ice

Easy Tips for Making Fire Ice a Part of Your Backyard Space

If you’ve ever enjoyed those decorating shows on television that are so popular these days, you may have noticed what is called fire ice, or rocks and crystals you add to a fire pit. These crystals can make your outdoor area seem more colorful and welcoming and can add that “designer’s touch” you’re searching for in any yard space.

There really is no science to adding thisto your fire pit; as with decorating your home, it’s up to your individual taste and preferences. There is a wide variety of colors and textures available, and of course you can even mix up some colors for a more custom look. Your choices will depend upon the look of your entire backyard area and if you have a theme or motif already in place in this area.

As an example, do you have a home in the desert or have a southwestern feel to your area? If so, choose one that incorporates deep earth tones to reflect those found in the desert. Or, if the décor is more colorful, consider rich turquoise as this is often a favorite choice for southwestern themes. If the décor is very busy and colorful already, you may want to tone down the color of itso it doesn’t look too busy. In such a case, consider adding some handfuls of black stones to the turquoise so that it’s not so overpowering.

It’s also good to consider the other elements you may have surrounding your fire pit when choosing the right fire ice. For example, if you have an in-ground pool that is surrounded by blue stone, consider a shade of blue that would complement this color and the blue tone of the water. If you were to use a color that is from a different tone or shade, such as bright red or yellow, this may very well clash with the surround. Look around your backyard and the area where you have your fire pit. What are the main colors you see; brown of a deck, red on the toss pillows, or the yellow of nearby flowers? Choose it in a color that would complement nicely.

Of course if you have a lot of neutral shades in your backyard area near your fire pit, using fire ice might be the best way to add some pops of color. Think of neutral tans and browns with some slight touches of orange for a warm and earthy look. Or you may choose that beautiful blue color but add in some white or clear crystals for an added glow.

The best thing you can do when choosing itis to look at catalogs and examples of other fire pits and see what appeals to you and what catches your eyes. This will help you to make the choice when it comes to adding fire ice to your own backyard.
